Sustainability

Ferrari-Carano has been committed to sustainability for many years, from vineyard to winery to bottle. Protecting the vineyards they farm is the first step in producing high quality wines and preserving the land for future generations.

Ferrari-Carano’s 24 vineyards earned California Sustainable Winegrowing Alliance (CSWA) certification, acknowledging their care of the environment, surroundings, neighbors, and labor force.

Water use efficiency, soil and nutrient management, pest management, biodiversity and wildlife conservation, energy efficiency, greenhouse gas mitigation, and soil waste management are all part of their sustainability efforts. Ferrari-Carano’s new production building at the Alexander Valley mountain winery was completed in 2017, meeting Cal Green requirements, with solid core insulation, white reflective roofs, and potential for solar panel installation in the future.

Ferrari-Carano provides rent-free housing for more than a hundred vineyard employees, and during harvest, the winery prepares two meals a day for their workers. A good neighbor in the winemaking community, Ferrari-Carano sent their water trucks to help fight fires at nearby Faye Ranch and refilled firefighters’ water supply during the 2017 wildfires.

A visit to Ferrari-Carano Vineyards and Winery inspires thoughts of the Tuscan countryside. The Italianate architecture, gardens, fountains, and attention to detail along with the warm hospitality and delicious wines create an unforgettable experience.

For many, a wine tasting at Ferrari-Carano is the start of a relationship that continues with drinking their wines with meals at home and recalling memories of a day at the Sonoma County vineyard.
